The Vaynor First School, Redditch
On 22 November 2001 the new rainforest mural was officially opened at The
Vaynor First School. The courtyard area outside Year 2's classrooms was transformed
by artist George Lashmar into a bright tropical scene. The theme was inspired by the
annual visits of the Rainforest Roadshow and the children themselves provided lots of
ideas for the kind of things they would like to see. Funded by the PTA, the area was
completed by the addition of plants, benches and decking to make this a quiet haven at
break times.
We were delighted to have the opportunity to attend the official opening and
speak to the children afterwards, and very grateful to be the inspiration behind such a
beautiful piece of artwork.
If you are interested in the possibility of George painting a mural for you, he
can be contacted on 01527 503245.
